Christmas by candlelight
Fairy lights, emerald gowns, and a programme that brought the academy and the full ensemble onto one Christmas stage.
The night
A hall dressed for listening and light
Christmas by Candlelight gathered choir, strings, piano, and young academy voices in a room lined with fairy light and festive banners. Emerald gowns and tuxedos carried the adult ensemble; white shirts and patterned sashes marked the next generation stepping onto the same stage.
The evening moved between full-company sound and close solo work — saxophone, violin, cello, and song — while families filled the red seats below. It was a seasonal tradition made visible: craft, warmth, and a city choosing to sit together in the dark of the year.
What it carried
Moments that defined the evening
- 01
A stage in festive dress
Fairy lights, garlands, and a choir in emerald made the hall feel like Christmas before the first phrase.
- 02
Academy beside the ensemble
Young singers and a student keyboardist shared the programme with the full company.
- 03
Solo colour inside the glow
Saxophone, strings, and a soulful vocal close-up proved the night was more than spectacle.
